SKIPPER

Guy deBoer

Guy is a first-generation American born with the sea in his veins—his father, a Dutch sea officer, and mother met aboard a ship after WWII. The fourth of six children, Guy grew up sailing in New Orleans before Olympic class events drew him into the national and international racing scenes. Guy made a name for himself on the Finn and Star circuits, then moved into professional racing and coaching. He has since retired from professional sailing and has shifted his passion into adventure yacht racing.

The One & Only: Spirit

Selected for her sturdy build, long waterline, powerful hull shape, and large sail area, Guy found Spirit in Maryland in 2019. Since then, she has been fully refit for the 2026 GGR with new winches, two wind vanes, and solar panels.
